AUSA Statue of Liberty Chapter Honors Its Corporate Sponsors

Distinguished Guests and Chapter Members Attend the Annual Corporate Recognition Dinner to Show Appreciation to the Chapter’s Corporate Members’ Support of Soldiers.

Members of The Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Greater New York-Statue of Liberty Chapter were on hand to honor, recognize and support the Chapter’s Corporate Sponsors at the Annual Corporate Appreciation & Recognition Reception on October 21st, 2010. The event was held at the Mutual of America Building in New York, NY. Chapter President, LTC Joe Schroder, together with Chapter Past President and Corporate Sponsor COL Dominic Morelli of Capacity Benefits Group, Inc., and Bob Vormittag, AUSA Liberty Chapter Vice President of Corporate Affairs, of Corporate Sponsor Vormittag Associates, Inc., were emcees for the ceremony, which was hosted by 17-year Corporate Member, Mutual of America Life Insurance Company, for the seventh straight year.

The reception featured guest speaker, Judge Rear Admiral John G. Ingram, who presented a powerpoint and discussion about the New York Naval Militia (NYNM). The NYNM complements the Army and Air National Guard Programs, as well as the State Guard program. The Naval Militia is a component of the New York Sate Division of Military and Naval Affairs. It carries out community service missions and addresses other needs of the State as directed by the Governor. Additionally, the NYNM provides unique skills to support National Guard and Port Security Operations, law enforcement and Homeland Security, and also provides assistance with natural and man-made disasters, technological disasters and civil emergencies.

SGT Louis Licalzi lent his stunning voice to open the program with “The Star Spangled Banner” and closed the night with a stirring rendition of “God Bless America.” LTC Schroder presented Mr. Justin O’Conner, VP of Mutual of America Life Insurance Company, with a special gift in honor and appreciation of the company’s seven years of support as host of the annual event. LTC Schroder also presented Rear Admiral Ingram with a gift of appreciation for his keynote speech and presentation.

The Corporate Dinner and Recognition Reception is held each year to thank the Chapter Corporate Members for their support and to encourage new sponsorship. The Chapter Members are employee organizations, local businesses, local community groups, veteran’s organizations, and small, midsize and large corporations working together to help promote the theme, “Army Strong!” Businesses and the military community come together through local chapters like the Statue of Liberty Chapter to help the Soldiers and their families.

Corporate Members honored at the event included; American Defense Systems, Inc., Apex Mills Corp., Capacity Benefits Group, Inc., Command Security Corp., Cuneo-Leider Management Corp., Mutual of America Life Insurance Company, Old Guard of the City of New York, Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’ & Airmen’s Club, Inc., Veteran Corps of Artillery, and Vormittag Associates, Inc. (VAI).

The Chapter wishes to thank Father COL Edward Kane for performing the opening invocation, and the Fordham ROTC for performing the colors and assisting the attendees during the evening. The Chapter would also like to acknowledge the following Past Presidents of The Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Greater New York-Statue of Liberty Chapter in attendance; Immediate Past President LTC Joe Reale, COL Dominic Morelli, MG Robert Rose, and MG George Barker.

AUSA is a private, nonprofit, professional and educational association of over 101,000 individuals, businesses, military and organizational members strong: Soldiers, Officers, NCOs, Active, Reserve, Guard, Army Civilians, Retirees, ROTC Cadets and representatives from other services.
